On the Bluebird Self Storage site, we started from bare earth and completed all the pipe as well as building excavation and parking lot construction. This site presented a few challenges for us to overcome.
Being the old Dufferin Concrete yard, the property had been built up over the years with concrete all of which needed to be hammered out in order to get down to a suitable base. Once the concrete was out of the way the peat moss that had been buried for decades was exposed and needed to go to make certain the building would be placed on a solid base. Concrete, peat and a high water-table were no match, construction progressed.
In addition to overcoming the challenges on this site we were able to screen the excavated material onsite to save material and trucking costs. Recognizing the cost savings means out client can better allocate capital to other areas of the project and utilize the material onsite.
In the end this was a top-notch project with an incredible finished product.
