When the decision is made to start with a new build the task of safely removing the old structure is first in order. On this site on Belwood Lake the old cottage was well past the point of saving and not what the client wanted. Working with our client and the local conservation authorities the necessary permits were obtained to remove the cottage.
Careful planning of a demolition is key. Keeping in mind the future excavation for the new cottage meant that it made sense to prepare for that during the demolition stage and ensure the trees in the way were carefully removed and the septic tank was pumped out and completely removed. In addition, the decision was also made to tackle this demolition in the fall when the lake level was low which would avoid a spring rush and any possible delays that could impact the start date of the construction. Thinking ahead means that when the time comes for the excavation to happen that part of the process will go off without any delays or additional expenses.
